Role summary

This role is for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Registered Nurse to join the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit team at Derriford Hospital. The nurse will coordinate and deliver effective quality nursing care for level 1-3 cardiac critical care patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. They will work as part of a multidisciplinary team and, after preceptorship, supervise Health Care Assistants and learners. The position offers opportunities to develop skills in critical care equipment management and patient management.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate and deliver effective quality nursing care for level 1-3 patients within cardiac critical care.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Supervise Health Care Assistants and other learners following a period of Preceptorship.
  • Provide and deliver a high standard of nursing care by initiating and coordinating the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating of individual patients needs.
  • Administer prescribed medications/fluids safely and effectively according to trust policy.
  • Communicate with other areas/disciplines ensuring sensitive and complex information regarding the patient is given appropriately.

Essential criteria

  • Registered Nurse Training completed
  • Basic computer skills
  • Proven drug administration oral/intravenous demonstrable experience
  • NMC Registered Nurse
  • Diploma qualification in a healthcare related subject / or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with ability to demonstrate fluency, clarity, and effectiveness at all levels
  • Ability to prioritise workload

Desirable criteria

  • Completed Preceptorship.
  • Demonstrable experience of acute hospital setting e.g. ICU/HDU experience.
  • Ability / demonstrable experience of - Directing and instructing others
  • Ability to work autonomously
