Role summary
This role is for a Band 6 Children's Community Nurse in Brent, Wembley. The nurse will provide high-quality, evidence-based care to children and young people with complex health needs in various community settings. Key responsibilities include specialist care like tracheostomy and IV therapies, working with families and multidisciplinary teams. It's an opportunity to develop community nursing skills within a supportive team.
Key responsibilities
- Provide information, education and emotional support to children, young people and their families.
- Promote health education and wellbeing, encouraging self-management where appropriate.
- Maintain the highest standards of infection prevention and control.
- Work autonomously as a lone practitioner, managing your own caseload with clinical support.
Essential criteria
- Current NMC Registration for children's nursing
- Evidence of post registration study / learning over the past two years.
- Numeracy skills required for the safe administration of medicines
- Recent experience of at least 1 year of working as a registered children's nurse in a community nursing role
- Recent experience within as acute/community setting
- Experience of working within multi-disciplinary teams
- Evidence of involvement in the management of difficult situations and conflict resolution
- Teaching in the practice situation
- Evidence of working without direct supervision and managing own workload
- Ability to support people to make informed decisions in relation to their health and well-being.
- Demonstrate ability to adapt to working within a changing environment.
- Demonstrate knowledge of research - based practice
- Evidence of supporting equality and valuing diversity in own practice
- Evidence of current clinical competencies relevant to community nursing.
- Medicine management/administration
- Obtaining consent
- Empowering and working in partnership
- IV Passport
- Academic ability to study independently at degree or postgraduate level.
- Good computer literacy skills e.g., Microsoft word, excel
- Excellent, adaptable communication skills both written and verbal.
- Numeracy and Literacy skills
- Able to willing to work in partnership with service users, their friends and family as well as other health professionals

- Managing a safeguarding caseload
- Knowledge of assessment of health needs of the local population
- Background knowledge of current policy relating to public health and primary care

- Nasogastric Tube Insertion competent
- IM injection competent
- Venepuncture
- Central line competency
- Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)

Working across children's homes, schools and nurseries, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to children and young people with a range of complex health needs.
