Role summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join Jasmine Ward, a specialist inpatient ward for older adults with acute mental health needs. The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day clinical and operational management of the ward, focusing on high-quality, person-centred care and supporting service users in their recovery journey. Key responsibilities

  • Lead and support junior staff in delivering quality nursing care, contributing to physical, psychological, social, recreational, and spiritual care in a recovery-focused way.
  • Coordinate and evaluate collaborative patient-centred care, gathering feedback and improving plans with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Administer and monitor medication, ensuring safe custody of medicines and clinical equipment, and reporting incidents.
  • Lead and support/teach junior staff on risk assessment and risk management, making decisions based on evidence and clinical judgment.
  • Support and supervise junior staff in developing care management through initial data collection, monitoring patient progress, and providing feedback.
  • Coordinate junior staff and the wider care team in providing hands-on care, undertaking 1-1 engagement, and ensuring monitoring and recording of service user clinical observations.

  • Able to provide quality care that is responsive to service user's needs, without close supervision
  • Teaching ability
  • Resilient: able to cope with difficult interpersonal situations.
  • Advocates for all individuals, particularly those with protected characteristics; promotes equality and diversity
  • Experience of research-based/reflective practice, e.g. understanding and ability to use supervision to reflect on skills, attitude and knowledge and develop these by using evidence based practice.
  • Significant relevant clinical experience
  • Experience as a preceptor / mentor
  • Knowledge of clinical governance and audit
  • Registered Adult Nurse and/or Registered Mental Health Nurse and/or Registered Learning Disabilities Nurse
  • Mentorship qualification

Desirable criteria

  • Problem solving, ability to identify problems, review options and take appropriate action without a predetermined framework
  • Experience of taking responsibility for a ward / clinical unit.
  • Experience of engaging / supporting clinical research projects
  • Experience of recruitment and selection of staff
  • Master's degree
