Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic Clinical or Counselling Psychologist to work on Juniper Ward, an adult acute mental health unit. You will provide specialist psychological assessments, therapy, and group programmes, as well as offering consultation, training, and support to ward staff. The position also involves supervising an Assistant Psychologist and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality mental health services. The post can be offered at Band 8a or as a Band 7/8a developmental role.
Key responsibilities
- Provide highly specialist psychological assessment and therapy, including group programmes, for service users and their families on Juniper Ward.
- Offer highly specialist advice and consultation on client formulation and psychological management to multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Clinically supervise and line manage trainee clinical psychologists, assistant psychologists, and other less experienced psychology staff.
- Contribute to audit, research, policy, and service development within the team.
- Develop and deliver training in psychological therapies for multidisciplinary staff.
- Lead and deliver a high-quality, largely autonomous clinical psychology service in line with best practice.
Essential criteria
- Doctoral Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology qualification or equivalent.
- Eligible for Chartered Psychologist status.
- HCPC Registered.
- Post qualification and further specialist training in specified specialist intervention.
- Evidence based therapeutic interventions with client group ie inpatient.
- Experience of working alongside multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Experience of Risk Assessment and Management
- Clinical supervision/consultation with other professionals.
- Psychological assessment skills and knowledge.
- Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge in the specialism. Ability to use this knowledge to think systemically/ organizationally.
- Training others in MH services topics.
Desirable criteria
- Supervision Training
- Relevant R&D or clinical audit work post qualification.
- Clinical supervision of Psychological therapy trainees

Job summary
If you are an enthusiastic clinical psychologist who is passionate about clinical work, high quality mental health services and supporting people who are struggling with their mental health in an inpatient setting, we would love to hear from you.
Working as the psychologist providing input to Juniper Ward (our adult acute unit) you will work as part of the ward team and provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy, group programmes, as well as consultation training and support to ward staff. You will also be responsible for supervising the ward Assistant Psychologist.
The ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams will be essential to developing your role. You will need to be well organised with the ability to prioritise your work according to clinical need and liaise effectively with team colleagues and other professionals.
The post is available as either an 8a post or as a Band 7/8a developmental post, dependent on experience. You will be supported in your role by the Head of Psychological therapies and the Divisional Inpatient Lead Psychologist.
