Role summary
As a Biomedical Scientist in Red Cell Immunohaematology (RCI), you will use your scientific expertise to deliver safe and effective diagnostic and transfusion services. You will perform and interpret a wide range of tests, operate advanced laboratory equipment, and contribute to the delivery of blood and tissue products. This role involves maintaining high standards of quality and safety, working collaboratively with colleagues, and contributing to life-saving services. You will also have opportunities to develop specialist knowledge and build your career within NHS Blood and Transplant.
Essential criteria
- Good understanding of Clinical Pathology Accreditation (CPA), Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), UK Blood Transfusion Service (UKBTS) and British Committee for Standards in Haematology (BCSH) guidelines.
- Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist (which must be maintained).
- Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
- Broad understanding of the NHSBT including its functions/departments and the wider healthcare community.
- In depth knowledge and understanding of the Biomedical Scientist role within NHSBT.
- Experienced in the use of a range of laboratory equipment.
- Broad Knowledge of transfusion and transplantation science.
- Competent in a range of manual scientific techniques.
- Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint).
