Role summary
As an Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor (OTTI) at The Brook, you will support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults during their inpatient admission. You will plan and deliver person-centred therapeutic activities and delegated OT interventions under the supervision of Occupational Therapists. The role involves building positive therapeutic relationships, adapting approaches to individual needs, and providing feedback to OTs. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team, families, and care providers to help people develop skills, confidence, and independence.
Essential criteria
- NVQ Level 3/Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent relevant qualification, or willingness to work towards this.
- Experience of working as part of a team.
- Experience of supporting people in a health, social care, education or other relevant setting.
- Experience of supporting people to participate in activities, develop skills or increase independence.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working with people with a learning disability and/or autistic people.
- Experience of working with people who have communication or sensory needs.
- Experience of using practical, creative, leisure or therapeutic activities with others.
- Experience of working within an inpatient, healthcare or multidisciplinary setting.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently within agreed boundaries and seek guidance when required.
- Ability to adapt communication and approach to meet individual needs.

Job summary
As an Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor (OTTI) at The Brook, you will be a key member of the Occupational Therapy team, supporting adults with a learning disability and autistic adults during their inpatient admission.
Working under the supervision of Occupational Therapists, you will use practical, technical and creative skills to plan and deliver person-centred therapeutic activities and delegated OT interventions. You will support people to develop skills, confidence and independence in areas that matter to them, including daily living, routines, meaningful activity, sensory regulation, community participation and preparation for discharge.
A key part of the role is building positive therapeutic relationships and finding creative ways to support engagement. You will observe how people respond to activities, adapt your approach to meet individual communication, sensory and support needs, and provide feedback to Occupational Therapists to help evaluate and develop interventions.
You will work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team, families and care providers, and may model approaches and practical strategies to others.
