Role summary
Join the dynamic Diabetes team within Surrey Downs Health and Care as a Diabetes Specialist Nurse. You will work closely with other specialist nurses, dietitians, and consultants to deliver advances in diabetes care and provide specialist services. The role involves ensuring high-quality nursing care, setting clinical practice standards, and monitoring patient outcomes within your designated clinical area. You will also be responsible for the operational effectiveness of your area, working with the Lead Diabetes Specialist Nurse.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care within your designated clinical area.
- Assist in setting standards of clinical practice and monitor patient outcomes.
- Ensure operational effectiveness of your clinical area, working with the Lead Diabetes Specialist Nurse.
- Undertake diabetes specialist nursing duties without direct supervision, providing specialist care in nurse-led clinics.
- Act as a specialist resource on diabetes for health professionals and provide ongoing psychological support to patients.
- Manage, supervise, and support members of the diabetes nursing team, acting as a professional role model.
Essential criteria
- oRegistered General Nurse
- oMentorship or equivalent qualification
- oEducated to Degree/Masters level or equivalent level of education
- oPost-registration qualification in Diabetes e.g. ENB 928,Warwick Diabetes Care or equivalent.
- oEvidence of further professional qualification
- oRelevant experience at Band 6 or above or Relevant recent experience
- oMultidisciplinary team working
- oPrevious diabetes nursing experience
- oIn depth knowledge of current practice
- oProfessional issues in nursing and healthcare
- oHolistic patient assessment
- oAbility to manage own workload
- oAble to recognise own boundaries of practice
- oAble to articulate highly complex and sensitive clinical topics
- oAble to communicate efficiently and effectively with other departments and healthcare professionals

We are looking for an enthusiastic Diabetes Specialist Nurse to join our Dynamic Diabetes team within Surrey Downs Health and Care, who are continuing to develop and deliver advances in diabetes care and provide several specialist services. As a team member, you will be working closely with the diabetes specialist nurses (DSNs), and diabetes dietitians, and our diabetes consultants, who provide care and support for our community diabetes service.
The post holder will ensure that high-quality nursing care is delivered within their designated clinical area.
The post holder will assist in setting the standards of clinical practice, in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, and will monitor patient outcomes.
The post holder will have ongoing responsibility for the operational effectiveness of their designated clinical area, being present in their clinical area, in conjunction with the Lead Diabetes Specialist Nurse.
