Role summary
This role involves providing specialist speech and language therapy to autistic individuals with complex healthcare needs across Lancashire and South Cumbria. The post holder will assess communication needs, deliver interventions in community and inpatient settings, and work as a key member of a multi-disciplinary team. The aim is to develop person-centred care plans to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions and support inpatient teams.
Key responsibilities
- Support the provision of the Autism Team to autistic individuals and complex healthcare needs.
- Assess and consider the communication needs of autistic people.
- Undertake appropriately delegated work to support the care and treatment of autistic adults.
- Work as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team to develop and deliver person-centred care plans.
- Support the inpatient team by providing intervention support regarding communication.
- Deliver routine speech and language therapy assessment and interventions to maintain, restore or create a beneficial match between the individual's abilities and environmental demands.
Essential criteria
- Bsc/ Msc in Speech and Language Therapy
- Documented evidence of continuing professional development

- Knowledge of evidence-based practice
- Knowledge of contemporary autism policy
- Previous experience pre or post qualification in learning disability, autism or mental health setting

- Broad range of under graduate practice placement experience

Job summary
The post holder will support the provision of the Autism Team to autistic individuals and complex healthcare needs across Lancashire and South Cumbria. Your role will be to ensure that the person's communication needs are assessed and considered. You will be a registered Speech and Language Therapist who will undertake appropriately delegated work to support the care and treatment of autistic adults within the community and inpatient settings. You will be a key member of the multi-disciplinary team and will work with the team to develop and deliver person centred care plans with the emphasis on preventing unnecessary hospital admissions. Where hospital admission is deemed appropriate, you shall support the inpatient team by providing intervention support regarding communication.
You will 30 hours between the hours of 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. Some flexibility is required to meet the needs of the team and the wider network. The specific hours are open to discussion however you will be require to work the same days at the team core meetings, currently these are a Tuesday and Thursday but may change.
The post holder shall support the delivery of the Specialist Autism Service team model through the provision of routine speech
