Role summary
This role is for an experienced Bank Healthcare Assistant to join the night community nursing teams in the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area, based at Beccles Hospital or JPUH. You will work in pairs with a Registered Nurse, visiting patients in their homes and residential care overnight to provide unplanned care, including end-of-life support, catheter issues, and fall response. The position requires resilience, resourcefulness, and a compassionate approach to patient care, working closely with other professionals.
Key responsibilities
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, relatives, and carers, respecting confidentiality.
- Plan and organise delegated clinical activities, such as phlebotomy, in various settings.
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver proactive and reactive services.
- Take, record, and report vital signs, recognise deteriorating conditions, and undertake assessments like MUST and Waterlow.
- Participate in wound care, venepuncture, specimen collection, and diabetic foot assessments as required.
- Report any concerns or changes in a patient's condition to a registered nurse without delay.
Essential criteria
- *NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (working towards) or equivalent experience in community setting.

Bank Health Care Assistant working within the night service
Are you an experienced Healthcare Assistant (HCA) who enjoys working in partnership with patients and their families? We are seeking a passionate and motivated Bank Healthcare Assistant to join our night community nursing teams working in the Great Yarmouth and Waveney area. You will be based at Beccles Hospital or JPUH. The successful candidate will have prior experience of working in healthcare, and be able to support patients and their families in challenging situations. As a team member working out of core hours the role will require an ability to work closely with professionals from other organisations.
The service delivers unplanned care to patients and will require the successful candidate to be resilient and resourceful. You will be working within an established team of clinicians who visit patients in their own homes and Residential Care, visits are completed by a Registered Nurse and a non registered nurse working in partnership. The desire to deliver high quality, compassionate end of life care is essential.
Interviews are provisionally scheduled to take place on 12th September 2026.
