Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic Band 6 Physiotherapist to join the Frailty rotation, supporting older adults in an acute setting across Care of the Elderly and Medicine wards. You will manage a caseload of complex patients, using evidence-based practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions. The position involves participating in 7-day working patterns and the respiratory on-call service. The Trust is committed to supporting professional growth with a two-week supernumerary induction.
Key responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of patients with varying diagnosis and / or complex needs, using evidence-based practice with client centred principles, to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
- Support the learning and development of students and staff.
- Develop enhanced clinical skills and knowledge in an area of interest linked with patient cohorts (e.g. cognition, specific clinical condition, prehabilitation / acute rehabilitation).
- Participate in 7-day working patterns as required.
- Participate in the respiratory on-call service.
- Be professional, legally responsible & accountable for all aspects of own work and activities, to manage clinical risk within own clinical caseload.
Essential criteria
- oBSc / MSc Physiotherapy and evidence of post graduate training in relevant specialist area
- oHCPC registered
- oClinical education training or willingness to complete within one year
- oCurrent (or recent) and substantial working experience of specific /specified area or relevant associated area
- oSignificant evidence of treating patients who are acutely unwell including respiratory management and treating patients at Critical Care level
- oCurrent or recent experience of participation in respiratory on call rota
- oDocumented evidence of continuing professional development.
- oMDT Working.
- oExperience of service improvement.
- oSpecialist knowledge of Physiotherapy assessment and treatment and how to apply this effectively within specialty
- oSpecialist knowledge of Physiotherapy role within an acute setting
- oAwareness of the service and specialties of UHCW
- oKnowledge of current best practice in Physiotherapy and its application.
- oEffective planning, evaluation and co-ordination of treatment.
- oApplied knowledge of relevant legislation including CPD and risk assessment and management.
- oKnowledge of clinical governance.

With frailty and an ageing population at the forefront of service development across the NHS, we are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Physiotherapist with a passion for supporting older adults within an acute setting to join our dedicated Frailty rotation which spans our Care of the Elderly and Medicine wards.
Our Care of the Elderly service covers four wards, providing specialist care for older adults with:
- Delirium
- Falls
- Dementia
- Infections
Our Medicine service covers four wards, providing specialist care for adults, with:
- Respiratory conditions
- Long-term conditions
- Endocrinology conditions
The patients we support are often living with frailty and are at significant risk of deconditioning during their hospital stay. If you have broad inpatient experience and a particular interest in frailty management, rehabilitation, and preventing deconditioning, this could be the ideal role for you.
As a Band 6 Physiotherapist joining the team, you will benefit from a two-week supernumerary induction period, giving you the opportunity to become familiar with the service, meet the wider team, and identify any development or training needs.
