Role summary

This is a specialist Band 7 MEED Liaison Practitioner role for adults with severe eating disorders across South Yorkshire acute hospitals. You will provide expert clinical leadership, assessment, and advice, supporting the implementation of Royal College of Psychiatrists MEED guidance. The role involves working with multidisciplinary teams to influence patient safety, develop staff capability, and improve pathways. This opportunity is for an experienced Registered Nurse or Registered Dietitian with extensive eating disorder experience.

Essential criteria

  • Significant experience of working with eating disorders in-patient setting or similar setting
  • Working knowledge of MEED Guidelines
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of key practice development needs in relation to healthcare for people with Mental Health.
  • (For dieticians) working knowledge of managing NG feed regimes in line with MEED Guidelines
  • Registered Nurse - RMN/RGN OR Registered Dietician
  • Evidence of post-qualification development to Master's level, or similar gained through experience

Desirable criteria

  • (For Nurses) Recognised post-graduate courses in an area of Mental Health Nursing Practice / Therapy
  • Extensive specialist post registration experience of working with people with complex and serious health issues secondary to their eating disorder, which may include Mental Illness, Physical Health or Challenging Behaviour.
  • Experience of assessing and proactively managing risk
  • Experience of supervising and managing other staff.
  • Experience of working across professional and organisational boundaries
  • Experience of effective teaching, facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Experience of supervising staff from a range of different professional groups.
  • Ability to travel to regional spoke locations (Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham)
  • Car Driver
  • Access to a vehicle

Job summary

Join us as the Medical Emergencies in Eating Disorders (MEED) Liaison Practitioner (Adult), a specialist Band 7 role supporting safe, compassionate and evidence-based care for adults with severe eating disorders across South Yorkshire acute hospitals. Main duties of the job

Provide specialist assessment, care planning and clinical leadership for adults admitted with severe eating disorders; deliver expert advice on medical stabilisation, nutritional rehabilitation, refeeding and risk management; support ward teams through education, supervision and competency development; work collaboratively with acute trusts, mental health services, primary care and partner organisations; contribute to governance, audit, service development and implementation of MEED and NICE guidance; and lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
