Role summary

This is a fixed-term, part-time Medical Secretary role within the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department, working 22.5 hours over 3 days. The successful candidate will provide efficient administrative support, working closely with medical and nursing teams. The role requires excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, IT literacy, and the ability to work flexibly in a busy environment. Essential criteria

  • Previous medical secretarial/administration experience
  • Audio typing - previous experience and / or qualification

  • Previous office experience within a healthcare environment
  • Microsoft Office - previous experience and / or qualification
  • Previous use of databases, ie Meditech
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, ideally within Obstetrics & Gynaecology
  • Awareness of NHS Policies, practices and procedures
  • Awareness of the Data Protection Act and understanding of the need to maintain confidentiality
  • RSA Word Processing / OCR Word Processing qualification, or NVQ 3 equivalent
  • 3 GCSEs grade C/4 or equivalent education to include English language
  • ECDL or equivalent general IT qualification

Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a Medical Secretary for the Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department in Care Group 3 for 22.5 hours per week over 3 days, fixed term for 6months.This is a busy, varied and rewarding role in which you will work closely with Consultants, medical and nursing teams and a wide range of administrative colleagues, to provide an efficient and responsive service for our patients.We are looking for a motivated individual with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills to join our secretary administration team. Candidates should possess a professional attitude to their work and have the ability to work flexibly in an extremely busy and rapidly changing environment. You must be fully IT literate with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge and experience of Meditech is desirable.

  • The Production of patient/client information letters via audio typing to assist Health Care Professionals in the day to day management of patient care
