Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Band 7 Gynaecology and Colposcopy Lead Nurse to join George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust. The role involves leading the Gynaecology Outpatient Team, overseeing services like outpatient clinics, cancer pathways, nurse-led clinics, the Early Pregnancy Unit, and the Gynaecology Assessment Unit. The successful candidate will provide specialist nursing expertise, manage staff rotas, and contribute to developing guidance and patient information leaflets. This full-time permanent position requires 2.5 days of management and 2.5 days of clinical work.
Key responsibilities
- Provide specialist nursing expertise and support staff in their practice, using advanced decision-making skills to deliver effective and efficient nursing care.
- Ensure that Nursing and Clinical Pathways/Guidelines/Protocols are implemented and maintained, upholding good standards of practice through quality assurance measures like clinical audits.
- Manage and effectively support patients through the delivery of difficult news, such as miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy diagnoses.
- Take responsibility for staff duty rotas to ensure effective and well-balanced cover, meeting service requirements with suitably qualified and experienced nurses and support staff.
- Work alongside the CSPL, Colposcopy coordinator, and lead consultants to develop guidance, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and patient information leaflets for colposcopy services.
- Participate in specialist Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings and other relevant meetings concerning Gynaecology, Early Pregnancy Assessment and Gynaecology Unit (EPAGU), and cancer.
Essential criteria
- Previous nursing experience at Band 6
- Evidence of being up-to-date with current issues relating to professional practice
- Knowledge of key national policy drivers for acute care including a desire to improve services and the patient experience
- Can demonstrate practical application of quality standards within the clinical setting e.g. Care Quality Commission, NICE guidance
- First level NMC nursing registration
- Evidence of further Professional Development relevant to current post.

- Evidence of implementing change in the workplace
- Able to promote equality, diversity and rights
- Mentorship of student nurses
- Evidence of advanced nursing studies, Master's degree (or working towards)
- Previous nursing experience at Band 6
