Role summary

Key responsibilities

  • To plan and deliver a patient centred dietetic service to patients in hospital and in the community.
  • To be professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of your own work, including the management of patients in your care.
  • To assess, diagnose and treat patients, individually or in groups when indicated in line with the BDA Nutrition and Dietetic Care Process.
  • To develop individualised dietetic diagnoses and goal and task orientated nutrition care plans in collaboration with patients, carers and colleagues.
  • To undertake risk assessments to determine appropriate management, specifically relating to the nutrition management of a patient.
  • To be responsible for maintaining accurate and comprehensive patient records in line with the legal requirements, Trust Guidelines and professional standards of practice.

Essential criteria

  • Professional degree qualification in relevant profession
  • HCPC registration
  • Experience of seeing patients according to the Nutrition & Dietetic Care Process
  • Experience of artificial nutrition support in a hospital setting
  • Experience in a clinical setting of application of professional standards and codes of conduct
  • Experience of using evidence based practice
  • Use of dietary assessment software.

Desirable criteria

  • Membership of Professional Body
  • Membership of a specialist section
  • Degree classification upper second class honours or above (or equivalent)
  • Recent junior experience in a structured rotational scheme.
  • Group teaching skills
