Role summary
This role is for a Registered Nursing Associate on an Older People's mental health inpatient ward for adults 65 and over with an organic mental health diagnosis. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, supporting Registered Nurses to deliver high-quality, person-centred care. Responsibilities include managing risk, complex clinical presentations, and crisis situations, as well as providing support and guidance to less experienced staff. Applicants must have the nursing associate qualification and be able to work shifts.
Key responsibilities
- Work as part of the Nursing workforce supporting Registered Nurses to deliver high quality, person centred, compassionate care to patients.
- Be part of the multi-disciplinary team delivering planned care to a group of patients working within the standards of proficiency outlined by the Nursing and Midwifery Council and in accordance with Trust policies and protocols.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a team and provide support/ guidance to less experienced staff/ learners within the clinical environment as needed and delegate care if appropriate.
- Supervise/support identified healthcare assistants.
- Promote the health and wellbeing of patients.
Essential criteria
- Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register
- Nursing Associate foundation degree
- A good understanding of Mental Health Primary Care
- Awareness of national and local policies/legislation relevant to the clinical area
- Knowledge of physical health co-morbidities effecting the patient group
- Knowledge of basic assessments, including risk and the ability to identify needs and care planning
- Demonstrates understanding of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the nursing interdisciplinary team, and organisation and how this may contribute to service development
- Demonstrable experience of working within the service area
- Experience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of providing and receiving complex sensitive information.
- Able to demonstrate effective inter-personal/communication s
- Ability to demonstrate ethical values and attitudes within a culture of equality and diversity
- Committed to continued personal and educational development
- The ability to contribute to and adapt to change
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of continued professional development documented through Trust PDR/KSF/Supervision processes and personal portfolio
- Understanding or application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area
- A broad understanding of relevant policy, legislation drivers and their application to clinical and service area
- Previous experience working of working with patients and primary care.

Applicants are required to have the nursing associate qualification.
Working hours are shifts consisting of Early, Late, Long Day and Nights although currently, our nursing associates do not work night shifts.
