Role summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Senior HR Advisor to join the People team at St Bartholomew's Hospital. The role involves working closely with various services as a business partnering function, supporting HR Business Partners in delivering customer-focused HR services. You will be the first point of contact for managers and staff regarding queries and concerns, providing advice on employee relations processes in line with policy and case law. The position also includes specific projects to develop skills and abilities within the advisory role.

Key responsibilities

  • Ensure the provision of professional, customer-focussed HR advice, coaching and solutions to designated Directorate/Services.
  • Ensure Corporate Trust People policies and procedures are translated and applied locally within operating frameworks.
  • Work in partnership with managers to develop and deliver an effective employee relations service.
  • Support the management and co-ordination of employee relations casework, ensuring consistency and efficiency in accordance with policies, legislation, and best practice.

Essential criteria

  • Degree level education or equivalent experience
  • CIPD or equivalent
  • Generalist HR experience demonstrating competence across a range of HR
  • Track record of providing HR advice to services and managers in a multidisciplinary team environment
  • Experience of advising managers on employee relations matters eg: disciplinary, grievance, sickness, capability including complex cases with minimal supervision
  • Experience of working as an HR Advisor in a large complex organisation with union recognition
  • Experience of supporting change management
  • Experience of developing through coaching/training on a range of People policies
  • Current knowledge of employment legislation, case law and good HR practice
  • Understanding of key current issues in human resources and the ability to interpret and apply the knowledge to People strategies
  • Ability to self manage and prioritise conflicting demands
  • Proven effective problem solving ability
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels, along with interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • To be impartial when providing clear and concise written and verbal communication to staff members at all levels
  • Have empathy when receiving or providing sensitive, personal, distressing and confidential information.
  • Be tactful, persuasive and able to influence when handling complex situations
  • Ability to use Microsoft office and input and manipulate data
  • Leadership - fostering powerful and productive working relationships internally and externally. Be able to motivate and enthuse others
  • Commitment to helping to provide equitable services for all health service users and NHS staff
  • Commitment to the principles of lifelong learning and continuous professional development
