Role summary
This role involves supporting adult dietitians in delivering community nutrition services. The Assistant Dietetic Practitioner will help adults with nutritional needs and their families to manage their care, aiming for optimal health outcomes. Key tasks include conducting basic patient reviews under supervision, planning and delivering nutrition education, and performing anthropometric assessments. The position offers opportunities for skill development in clinical nutrition within a supportive team.
Key responsibilities
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of adult team work by providing administrative support and liaising with service users and professionals.
- Carry out basic patient reviews and manage non-complex patient caseloads under the supervision of a dietitian.
- Plan and deliver nutrition education sessions, both face-to-face and virtually.
- Conduct anthropometric assessments such as weight, height, waist circumference, and hand grip strength.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and professional clinical records and manage own diary and caseload.
- Participate in evidence-based audit and research projects to develop clinical practice.
Essential criteria
- Previous experience of working in a health or social care setting, including health promotion
- Advanced IT Skills, including use of Word, Microsoft Outlook, Excel and (Powerpoint - this would be dependent on role)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational, time management and prioritisation skills
- Excellent team working skills
- Has a realistic knowledge of personal strengths and areas for development
- In highly stressful situations keeps own feelings in check, takes constructive action and calms others down
- Recognises the limits of own authority within the role, seeks and uses professional support appropriately
- Ability to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults
- NVQ Level 4 or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
- Knowledge of specific patient conditions and therapeutic approaches, acquired through specialist training and significant practical experience.
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of group training
- Higher national diploma (HND) or SVQ/NVQ level 5 or foundation degree in nutrition and/or healthcare, or level 5 healthcare apprentice.
