Role summary
This role involves joining the Emergency Preparedness Resilience and Response (EPRR) team to support the Trust in planning for and responding to emergency incidents. The post holder will act as a subject matter expert, developing and implementing EPRR programmes, coordinating self-assessments, and delivering training. Key responsibilities include supporting operational responses, maintaining stakeholder relationships, and ensuring compliance with national standards. The role requires travel across Sussex and offers flexible working options.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the Trust's EPRR subject matter expert, providing specialist advice and guidance.
- Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Trust's EPRR and Business Continuity programmes.
- Coordinate and manage the Trust's annual NHS England EPRR Core Standards self-assessment process.
- Design, deliver, and evaluate EPRR and Business Continuity training and exercising programmes for staff.
- Support the operational response to incidents, emergencies, and business continuity disruptions.
- Represent the Trust at EPRR meetings, exercises, forums, and resilience groups.
Essential criteria
- Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level qualification with specialist training to masters or equivalent level.
- Professional emergency planning or business continuity qualification, DipHEPRR or equivalent
- Recognised training qualification or willingness to work towards (e.g. City & Guilds Level 3 award in education & training, PTTLS, CTLS etc)
- Experience of continuing professional development and other significant training and experience in a workplace setting
- Subject matter expertise in Emergency Preparedness Resilience and Response
- Experience of emergency planning and business continuity within an area such as the NHS, CCG or local authority ideally within the NHS.
- Knowledge of resilience legislation and guidance including the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.
- Knowledge Demonstrable senior management experience.
- Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciate the implications of this on engagement
- Experience of delivering against competing priorities and deadlines while also directing the work of teams/individuals.
- Up to date knowledge of the local and national agenda in relation to resilience
- Experience of creating and giving presentations to a varied group of internal and external stakeholders
Desirable criteria
- Should have an appreciation of the relationship between the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England and NHS Improvement and individual provider and commissioning organisations.
- Demonstrated experience in a Healthcare environment.

Job summary
We are seeking to recruit a passionate, knowledgeable and dynamic emergency planning and business continuity professional to join our Emergency Preparedness Resilience and Response (EPRR) team at Sussex Partnership Foundation NHS Trust (SPFT) in Sussex.
As a EPRR practitioner, your goal is to support the Trust in its ability to plan for and respond to emergency incidents. You will be joining a small team who offer a friendly and supportive environment, dedicated to providing a high-quality service to the trust. Our core service includes meeting the needs of the NHSE EPRR Core Standards, including major, critical and business continuity planning, training and exercising, incident response and debriefing and assessing local risks within Sussex which may affect the trusts critical services.
You will be required to work with division and service leads across Sussex and support them in their emergency planning arrangements, including planning, training, exercising, supporting response and debriefing.
