Role summary
This role is for a Children's Diabetes Dietitian to join the Children and Young People's Diabetes Service at UCLH, covering a 12-month maternity leave. The successful candidate will provide specialist dietetic assessment, treatment, education, and support for children and young people with diabetes and their families. The position involves inpatient care, multidisciplinary outpatient clinics, dietetic-led clinics, and community working, collaborating closely with various healthcare professionals. It's an opportunity to contribute to service development, audit, research, and quality improvement within a supportive team.
Essential criteria
- Four-year degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent
- HCPC registered
Desirable criteria
- Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA) or equivalent association
- Post registration training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy/Motivational Interviewing
- Post graduate study in specialist area of dietetics e.g. paediatric diabetes modules e.g. MSc Paediatric Diabetes modules
- Post registration clinical experience
- This must include experience in the specialist area of dietetics
- Involvement in relevant specialist interest group
- Quality and service improvement
- Experience of service development
- Experience in project management
- Skills & Abilities
- oCommunication : Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- oCommunication : Experience of multidisciplinary teamwork
- oCommunication : Awareness of need for confidentiality and issues of consent
- oCommunication : Proven experience of communicating to affect change in children and adolescents
- oPersonal and people development
- Experience of training student Dietitians/other HCPs
- Experience in the support and development of junior members of staff
- Teaching on degree (or higher level) / professional course
- oInformation collection and analysis including IT skills
- Anthropometry skills
- Experience of conducting audit and/or research, including the ability to analyse and interpret statistics
- Computer literacy
- Experience using cloud-based platforms for review of diabetes management

- Knowledge & understanding of clinical governance and risk management and relevance to dietetics

- To manage the physical effort of working between hospital sites, frequently moving up and down stairs, standing for long periods of time and carrying heavy folders.

We are looking for a Children's Diabetes Dietitian to join our Children and Young People's Diabetes Service at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to cover 12 months maternity leave.
This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a friendly, supportive and highly motivated multidisciplinary team, providing specialist dietetic assessment, treatment, education and support for children and young people with diabetes, their families and carers. The role will include inpatient care, multidisciplinary outpatient clinics, dietetic-led clinics, community working and close collaboration with nursing, medical, psychology and wider allied health professional colleagues.
Main duties of the job
o Provide specialist dietetic education and support for children and young people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes from diagnosis through to transition to adult services.o Support children, young people, families, carers and school staff to develop confidence in diabetes self-management.o Provide education and advice on diabetes technology, including insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring and hybrid closed loop systems where appropriate.o Contribute to service development, audit, research, quality improvement and national programmes including the Nat
