Key responsibilities
- Provide a medicines optimisation service to the prison.
- Administer medicines to offenders as part of a 7-day per week rota.
- Undertake medicines reconciliation for prisoners admitted to the prison.
- Supervise assistants in the dispensary providing dispensing services.
- Perform final dispensing checks as an accredited checking technician or with a medicines optimisation qualification.
- Ensure high standards of work in the dispensary, clinics, and on the wings, adhering to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Essential criteria
- NVQ level 3 Pharmacy Services or equivalent
- Registration with GPhC as a pharmacy technician
- Evidence of CPD
- Previous experience of working in a pharmacy
- Good knowledge of working within a set of SOPs
- Ability to use (or learn to use) computer packages including Pharmacy Manager/ JAC and Microsoft
Desirable criteria
- Working towards Accredited Checking or MM Technician Certificate
- Previous prison or mental health pharmacy experience
- Ability to use initiative to problem solve
- Some understanding of mental illness and substance misuse and their treatment
