Key responsibilities
- Assist Biomedical Scientists in the provision of an efficient and effective Clinical Microbiology service.
- Perform routine diagnostic laboratory tests, accurately recording and reporting results.
- Perform molecular testing and daily running of molecular suite, accurately recording and reporting results.
- Participate in the training of other laboratory groups as appropriate.
- Participate in the routine work of most areas of Microbiology, on a rotational basis, including Bacteriology, Serology and Virology, Mycology, Parasitology (Faecal), and Media preparation.
- Receive, sort and handle samples of urine, faeces, blood and other body fluids.
Essential criteria
- Relevant Foundation Degree, Level 4 BTEC, IBMS Certificate of Achievement Level 2, or equivalent
- Experience at Band 3 (ATO/MLA) level in a clinical microbiology laboratory
- Experience in working with molecular testing analysers
- Experience in data entry
- Experience in staff supervision
- Good standards of written and verbal communication
- Ability to communicate at all levels
- Ability to work to Standard Operating procedures, with good attention to detail
- Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of involvement with training in other laboratory areas, e.g H&S, training
- Audit experience
