Role summary
This role involves providing Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression (PMVA) training and personal safety advice to staff across Powys Teaching Health Board. The trainer will deliver bespoke training packages, support the planning and organisation of programmes, and assist with risk assessments. They will also provide advice to managers and staff on violence and aggression issues, ensuring compliance with national guidelines and policies. The position requires working under the supervision of the PMVA Advisor and contributing to the development of training materials.
Essential criteria
- Diploma of Higher Education (DipHE) or equivalent
- Understanding of the Mental Health Act
- Relevant qualification in PMVA/Accredited Restrictive Intervention Trainer (General Services Association) qualification or willing to work towards
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of NMC Code of Conduct
- Clinical experience of working within mental health or learning disabilities settings
- Demonstrate a practical, problem-solving approach to Violent and Aggressive incidents based on evidence-based practice
- Be physically capable of teaching the practical aspects of PMVA training
- Presentation/teaching skills
- Incident Reporting processes
- Awareness of Human Rights and Equality and Diversity principles
- Experience of dealing with complex situations and incidents specifically relating to Violence and Aggression
- Knowledge of Health & Safety Legislation and Law
- Risk Management experience
- Skills and Attributes
- Need to be and maintain physical fitness to be able to demonstrate Violence and Aggression training e.g. breakaway techniques
- Confident in delivering training at all levels and have the necessary influencing skills to deal with situations where there may be barriers to accepting change
- Manage own workload effectively
- Managing a learning environment by coaching/mentoring, influencing, problem-solving, creativity, innovation and motivation of staff
- Competent in presentation skills with excellent communication skills
- Some ability to speak, read and/or write Welsh, or an eagerness to learn.
- Demonstrate good awareness of leadership skills and willingness to develop their professional role
- Ability to speak Welsh
