Role summary

Join the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust as a Bank Occupational Therapist, working flexible, ad-hoc shifts across various specialties. Key responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on experience in trauma and electives, including Fast Track joint replacements, focusing on post-op care, patient assessments, and discharge planning in Orthopaedics.
  • Conduct rapid assessments and early interventions in the fast-paced Emergency Department, collaborating with medical teams to manage diverse conditions.
  • Enhance skills in treating frail older adults with complex needs in Older Persons Units, focusing on rehab, frailty management, and discharge planning.
  • Immerse in neuro rehab, assisting patients recovering from strokes and brain injuries, developing rehab programs, and focusing on upper limb management and cognitive assessments.
  • Treat patients with respiratory, cardio, gastroenterology, and diabetes management in Medicine, working with specialists to enhance quality of life.

Essential criteria

  • Diploma/degree in OT by recognised awarding body e.g. Royal College of Occupational therapists.
  • Must satisfy the criteria for full membership of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Further qualifications/study
  • Driving licence (and use of own car for work purposes).
  • Band 7 only; Educated to masters level/ degree level/NVQ/ Certificate OR equivalent level of experience of working at a senior level/supervisor/ in specialist area.
  • Knowledge of the role of Occupational Therapy for people with a wide range of physical dysfunction.
  • Previous experience relating to specialist area.
  • Experience of working in an acute hospital setting.
  • Knowledge of relevant NHS and SS legislation.
  • Experience with community/mental health conditions
  • Used to working in a busy environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and any other relevant It systems applicable to the applicant.
  • Experience of undertaking clinical supervision.
  • Experience of managing and motivating a team and reviewing performance of the individuals.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Inclusion (equality and diversity) agenda.
  • Band 7 only: Completed all core Junior rotations
  • Band 7 only: Extensive experience within specialty in an acute NHS Trust,/ Community Trust , at a Senior Level.
  • Band 7 only: Evidence to support knowledge base in specialist area
  • Band 7 only: Evidence of post registration education and continuous professional development
  • Band 7 only: Specialist clinical skills in specialty area
  • Band 7 only: Knowledge of systems used for data recording and reporting
  • Band 7 only: Experience of audit, research and evidence based practice

Desirable criteria

  • An approved Occupational Therapy supervisor for OT/PT degree students
  • Must be a State Registered Occupational Therapist.
