Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and committed Sexual Health Specialist Nurse to join the Newcastle Sexual Health Team. The role involves providing support to the clinical team within a community sexual health clinic, primarily in Summerhill, Newcastle, but may also require working at other locations. The post-holder will be an experienced nurse, maintaining confidentiality and a non-judgemental approach while delivering high-quality, integrated sexual health care. The role includes evening and weekend duties as part of a monthly roster.

- Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or reassurance skills are required.
- Able to work without supervision.
- Competent in the use of IT packages.
- Proven interpersonal skills.
Desirable criteria
- Termination of pregnancy decision making and referral skills.
- Previous clinical experience of working within an integrated sexual health setting.
- Experience of leading a team or experience of supervising junior staff.
- Current 1st level NMC registration.
- Degree in nursing studies or relevant clinical degree (UK equivalent).
- Practice assessor training or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Recognised competency-based qualifications in integrated sexual health e.g., Management of Sexually Transmitted Infections and Contraception in Practice, or Integrated Sexual Health Module, or equivalent.
- Evidence of competency achievement in Sub-dermal implant insertion and removal or willingness to complete.
- Evidence of Cervical cytology qualification or willingness to complete.
- Non-medical prescribing or willingness to complete
- Physical Skills
- Developed physical skills with a need for accuracy to undertake for example:
- oVenepuncture
- oAdministration of local anaesthetic
- oInsertion of contraceptive implant
- Basic keyboard skills.
- Use of electronic resources to input, save and provide data and information, making full use of the electronic record system.

Job summary
Newcastle Sexual Health Team have an exciting opportunity for a
passionate and committed Sexual Health Specialist Nurse. We are looking for a qualified sexual health
nurse, who is friendly and enthusiastic, with a flexible approach to provide
support to the clinical team. This is a
permanent full/part-time position, which will predominantly be based within the
community sexual health clinic at Newcastle Sexual Health Service in Summerhill.
However, there may be times when the employee would need to work at Gateshead
Trinity Square Health Centre and Palmers Community Hospital in Jarrow and
outreach clinical locations.
We are a friendly, community based, multi-disciplinary team. We are committed to delivering high quality,
integrated sexual health care for the local population, our service includes
both contraceptive and genito-urinary medicine.
The post-holder must be able to maintain a sensitive and non-judgemental
approach to support patients with their sexual health needs.
