Role summary
Join a small, friendly team as a Band 6 Midwife providing immunisations to pregnant patients within the Maternity Service. This role involves advocating for public health vaccination programmes, safely delivering whooping cough and seasonal flu vaccinations, and providing health promotion advice. You will work flexibly across Maternity Services to deliver an effective vaccination service and support COVID vaccination programmes. The position is fixed-term until October 2027 due to short-term funding.
Key responsibilities
- Be an advocate for Public Health surrounding vaccination programmes for pregnant patients and their families.
- Work in the Maternity Services Vaccination clinic, safely delivering whooping cough and seasonal flu vaccinations.
- Provide relevant advice and health promotion information to pregnant people attending the clinic.
- Work flexibly as required across all areas of the Maternity Services locally, in delivering an effective vaccination service.
- Support the service in any COVID vaccination programmes.
- Provide support to the peer vaccination programme as required.
Essential criteria
- Registered midwife on relevant part of the NMC Register
- Diploma or degree in midwifery
- Completion of preceptorship
- Competent clinical skills and knowledge across all areas of midwifery practice
- Knowledge of current Government NHS Agenda relevant to Maternity Services
- Suturing competency
- Cannulation competency
- Patients First

Desirable criteria
- Physical Examination of the Newborn (NIPE) qualification
- Recognised teaching / mentorship qualification
- Professional Midwifery Advocate (Supervisor of Midwives)
- Case loading experience

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 midwife to join our small, friendly team providing immunisation to those using our Maternity Service.
This is a small team overseen by the Public Health Midwives and, currently, delivers recommended vaccinations proactively to our pregnant population. Our vaccination rates exceed the national average, and this is attributable to effort shown by this team.
