Role summary
This role involves acting as a senior clinical specialist in the Radiotherapy Service's Pre-Treatment area, overseeing daily operations, workload, and staffing. The postholder will lead a designated team and projects, maintaining high clinical expertise during normal and extended hours. They will collaborate with the Senior Radiotherapy Team to implement new technology and contribute to Quality Assurance Programmes. Responsibilities also include staff training, development, recruitment, appraisals, and performance management.
Key responsibilities
- Lead a designated team and work clinically, maintaining a high level of expertise in their designated area of the Department.
- Manage staff performance including sickness absence management and support the disciplinary & grievance procedures.
- Undertake staff interviews, appraisals & development of PDPs and participate in staff support.
- Ensure that staff and students working in one's area of responsibility are given adequate training, development and guidance to ensure the safe and effective treatment.
- Provide advanced decision-making advice.
- Participate in clinical audits and assist with collation of data necessary to the quality assurance requirements.
- Participate in service improvements, develop departmental policies and local work instructions.
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience working in Radiotherapy
- Evidence of postgraduate study to M level
- Demonstrable experience at senior level
- DCR(T) / BSc(Hons) Radiotherapy & Oncology or equivalent
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Evidence of negotiating / influencing skills
- Evidence of staff/student training
- Evidence of contribution to departmental policy development
- Evidence of contribution to service development
- Evidence of involvement in audit
Desirable criteria
- Leadership qualification (including in house training / courses)
- Experience of managing staff
- Has an understanding of clinical governance and risk management
- Advanced communication skills training
- Evidence of managing / developing staff
- Evidence of taking the lead for a project

The postholder will lead a designated team and projects, and will work clinically, maintaining a high level of expertise in their designated area of the Department, both during normal and extended working hours.
