Role summary
The Young Parent Midwife will develop and deliver high-quality maternity services, focusing on supporting young parents and reducing health inequalities. This role involves providing safe, effective, and evidence-based midwifery care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods. The post holder will promote health and wellbeing through education and support, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and partner agencies. They will also play an active role in safeguarding children and young people and act as a role model and mentor for students and new midwives.
Essential criteria
- Registered Practicing Midwife
- First Degree or equivalent level of experience working in a midwifery role
- Professional training/learning which demonstrates highly developed professional knowledge / continuing professional development
- SSSA Practice Assessor/ Mentorship qualification
- Broad range of clinical midwifery experience acquired through significant practice in a variety of settings including labour ward
- Experience of proactively engaging service users

- Master's degree or equivalent level of experience in a highly specialised role
- Quality Improvement Methodology Qualification
- Leadership Qualification
- Demonstrable evidence of leading on delivery, design and implementation of service/quality improvement initiatives

Job summary
The Young Parent Midwife will contribute to the development and delivery of high-quality maternity services in line with professional standards, local priorities, and national government policy, with a particular focus on supporting young parents and reducing teenage pregnancy-related health inequalities.
The post holder will provide safe, effective, and evidence-based midwifery care to young pregnant people and their families throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.
A key aspect of the role is promoting the health, wellbeing, and social welfare of young parents through education, health promotion, and the provision of advice and support. The post holder will work collaboratively with specialist midwives, multidisciplinary teams and partner agencies to improve outcomes for young families and contribute to reducing health inequalities within the local population.
The Young Parent Midwife will play an active role in safeguarding children and young people, exercising professional judgement to identify concerns, promote welfare, and initiate appropriate actions to minimise the risk of harm.
