Role summary
This role is for a Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner within the Cheshire and Mersey Perinatal Mental Health Service. The practitioner will provide specialist assessment, risk management, and therapeutic interventions to women experiencing mental health difficulties during pregnancy and the postnatal period. The position involves working within a multi-disciplinary team to promote recovery, enhance maternal wellbeing, and support parent-infant relationships. It primarily covers the Sefton locality, with potential cross-cover for Liverpool.
Essential criteria
- Able to produce well written and concise clinical Assessments
- Able to produce robust risk assessments/safety plans.
- Able to own problems and get involved in the solutions.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Computer literacy and analysis of data/willingness to train in such.
- Ability to manage own time.
- Ability to plan creatively to maximise effectiveness of time.
Desirable criteria
- Skills in the delivery of perinatal based interventions.
- Educated to diploma/degree level and registered with an appropriate professional body (i.e. Registered Mental Health Nurse)
- Post graduate qualification relevant to specialism.
- Already trained to Level 3 in safeguarding children and young people.
- Experience of working with families presenting with Mental Health Needs.
- At least 2 years post registration experience
- Knowledge in perinatal mental health/willingness to undertake training
- Knowledge in attachment and infant mental health or willingness to undertake training
- Skills and experience in undertaking mental health assessments/undertaking assessment autonomously.
- An understanding of the Mental Health Act and the Mental Capacity Act.
- Experience of working in a multi disciplinary and multi-agency environment.
- Experience of managing a busy caseload/workload of service users with a range of mental health problems.
- Experience of student mentorship.
- Awareness of community structures and social care options and processes.
- Previous experience of working in a perinatal mental health service

Job summary
The Cheshire and Mersey Perinatal Mental Health Service has grown at a significant rate following a successful bid for Long Term Plan funding, allowing us to support an increasing number of women, partners, and families within the perinatal period.
We are seeking a practitioner who are passionate about providing excellent care to women and families within the perinatal period and seeking to reduce health inequalities.
We utilise a flexible approach to the delivery of clinical care to best suit the need of mother and infant.
We are looking to recruit practitioners from a variety of backgrounds including Registered Mental Health Nurses (RMN) and/or Social Work.
Specialist training opportunities will be available as part of this role.
You will have a minimum of two years post registration experience. You will need to be able to travel across a large geographical area.
The role will primarily covers the Sefton locality, there may also be the need to cross cover Liverpool locality too.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, contributing to the effective prioritisation and provision of Perinatal Mental and Infant Mental Health Services to an identified caseload of women.
