Role summary
This role is for an experienced Healthcare Support Worker to join the Acute Assessment Unit, Older Persons Assessment Unit, and Same Day Emergency Care at Whipps Cross Hospital. The post holder will undertake delegated clinical tasks such as patient observations, assisting with personal care, and supporting nutritional needs. Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential for delivering high-quality, person-centred care. Support will be provided to complete Band 3 competencies within six months.
Key responsibilities
- Work within a challenging clinical environment, potentially undertaking shift work including nights and weekends.
- Actively participate in meeting patient needs as an integral part of the nursing team, under direct supervision of a registered nurse.
- Develop essential competencies through training and practice to ensure safety and quality.
- Undertake a range of delegated clinical tasks, such as patient observations, assisting with personal care and mobility, and supporting nutritional and hydration needs.
- Perform limited delegated duties including taking blood pressure, recording ECG, MRSA screening, and simple wound dressings.
- Contribute to updating patient records and protect patient confidentiality.
Essential criteria
- Completion of Care Certificate or equivalent.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills (English and Math's GCSEs or equivalent.)
- Evidence of ongoing personal development.
- Demonstrable experience of working in a clinical healthcare setting
- Experience of dealing with the public.
- Evidence of providing high quality care.
- To be aware of incident reporting systems and escalation processes.
- Evidence of effective interpersonal skills.
- Evidence of good organizational skills.
- Self-motivated to work under minimal direct supervision
