Role summary
This role is for a Deputy Sister/Deputy Charge Nurse on the Respiratory Support & Sleep Centre (4N), a specialist 15-bedded ward. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, support ward management, and contribute to service development. It's an exciting opportunity for an experienced respiratory nurse to develop leadership skills within a specialist and supportive environment. The position is for 36 hours per week, covering long days, nights, and weekends.
Essential criteria
- Professional adult nursing qualification and clinical knowledge acquired through training to diploma or degree level.
- PLUS post graduate learning or experience relevant to practice with demonstrable competence OR specialist knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge or relevant practical experience.
- Leadership/management training and/or experience.
- Registered with Nursing and Midwifery Council.
- Significant experience in field of own practice including experience in specialty.
- Ability to lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team as well as mentor and educate junior staff.
- An understanding of clinical governance frameworks including Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), policy and procedure, audit and quality assurance.
- An understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures, particularly those related to vulnerable patients.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to be able to problem solve, use own initiative and plan, organise and prioritise own and others' workload.
- Evidence of continuous professional development and a willingness to participate in further training and education.
- Competent IT skills.

Job summary
The Respiratory Support & Sleep Centre (4N) is a specialist 15-bedded ward dedicated to the care and management of patients with sleep and respiratory disorders. The ward includes 3 high dependency beds supporting patients requiring weaning from invasive ventilation. We also provide ongoing follow-up care within our 10-bedded day case ward.
We are proud to be one of the largest units in the UK providing non-invasive ventilation (NIV) for patients with lung disease and neuromuscular disorders. Our service currently supports more than 1,500 patients on long-term home ventilation.
