Role summary
This role is for a Diagnostic Radiographer, suitable for students, apprentices, or existing Band 5 Radiographers, to join a busy and expanding team at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. The position involves working in a supportive environment across ED, theatre, and General X-ray and CT, with a commitment to out-of-hours responsibilities including days, nights, and weekends. The Trust offers comprehensive induction, preceptorship, and support for CPD and role development, aiming to progress staff to Band 6.
Key responsibilities
- Participate in a comprehensive Induction, Probation and Preceptorship Programme.
- Rotate through ED, theatre, and General X-ray and CT departments.
- Undertake IV cannulation and PGD training.
- Fulfill out-of-hours responsibilities, including day, night, and weekend shifts.
- Deliver high-quality imaging services and patient care.
Essential criteria
- Diagnostic Radiography BSc or equivalent
- HCPC registration
- CPD portfolio evidence
- To have recent clinical experience in an NHS hospital, or equivalent (either as a student or qualified radiographer).
- A sound knowledge of radiology departmental/other hospital protocols and practices
- Ability to receive and analyse sensitive/ contentious, complex, information and respond in a rapid and appropriate fashion
- Decision making skills
- Good understanding of IR(ME)R and IRR
- Ability to deliver good general radiographic skills and patient care
- Ability to use professional judgement to obtain the optimum outcomes for patients, whilst working within protocol constraints
- IT literate
- Ability to rapidly assess patient personality and respond appropriately
- Ability to recognise a deteriorating patient
- Ability to work on own initiative and manage time effectively
- Sensitivity to work with the acutely, chronically and terminally ill
Desirable criteria
- IV cannulation course
- Experience of working out of hours during training or when qualified
- Local knowledge within the Trust
- Ability to liaise with staff internal and external to the department to aid high quality service delivery
