Role summary
The Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker supports the delivery of a safe, effective, and patient-centred Endoscopy service. Working under the direction of registered nurses, the post holder assists in the care of patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures. This role ensures high standards of care, patient experience, and service efficiency within the Endoscopy Unit.
Key responsibilities
- Assist with the admission, preparation, and discharge of patients attending the Endoscopy Unit.
- Support patients before, during, and after endoscopic procedures, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and wellbeing.
- Undertake delegated clinical duties, including recording vital signs, patient observations, and specimen collection.
- Escalate any concerns regarding patient condition promptly to the registered nurse.
- Prepare procedure rooms and equipment for endoscopy lists.
- Assist clinicians and nursing staff during procedures as required.
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with people, ideally in a front-line customer service role
- An understanding of the importance of patient confidentiality and privacy
- Recognise how patients and colleagues need to be treated with dignity and respect and can demonstrate these behaviours in their daily work
Desirable criteria
- Level 2 or Level 3 (NVQ) in health and Social Care or equivalent relevant experience
- Care Certificate or working towards
- Experience of providing person-centred care
