Role summary
This role involves working in the busy Paediatric Department at Luton and Dunstable Hospital, providing administrative support for the patient pathway. Key duties include booking appointments, logging referrals, managing waiting lists, handling patient calls, and performing general administrative tasks. Key responsibilities
- Provide a customer-focused service, dealing with patients and families efficiently and courteously.
- Handle patient/relative queries confidentially, referring clinical queries to appropriate staff.
- Act as the first point of contact for patients, GPs, and other departments, relaying messages to clinicians.
- Book appointments, add patients to waiting lists, and enter 18-week coding data onto the IPM system.
- Type clinic letters, proofread, print, and post them, and log referrals.
- Answer and make calls to patients for bookings and enquiries, prioritising and disseminating information.
Essential criteria
- Good standard of Education - GCSE Maths & English or equivalent
- EDCL or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of record systems/data bases with proven experience
- Experience in working within a confidential environment
- Well-developed interpersonal skill - able to converse in a positive manner at all levels
- Ability to adapt in an ever changing environment
- Advance keyboard skills
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Ability to adapt to change within the working situation
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of iPM/ICE
- Apprenticeship in Medical Terminology AMSPAR certificate
- Previous NHS experience
- Previous experience working in Colorectal or Outpatient bookings
- Proven ability to multi-task, be flexible, adaptable, motivated, reliable, willing and able to take personal responsibility
- Good organisational skills

Job summary
