Role summary
This role is for an enthusiastic and skilled Highly Specialist Physiotherapist to join the acute paediatric physiotherapy service, focusing on paediatric respiratory management and cystic fibrosis. The post holder will provide specialist assessment, treatment, and advice, working within a multidisciplinary team to contribute to clinical decision-making and care planning for children with complex needs. It involves leading service development, audit, and education for junior therapists, and participating in an on-call rota.
Key responsibilities
- Provide specialist physiotherapy assessment, treatment and advice across paediatric respiratory care.
- Contribute to clinical decision-making, advisory reports and collaborative care planning for children with complex needs.
- Lead and develop services across hospital sites and lead on paediatric respiratory education for junior therapists.
- Work using an enhanced level of practice applying specialist knowledge and skills in paediatric cystic fibrosis.
- Act as the profession specific lead to support the training and development of clinical staff within the Paediatric therapy team and wider multidisciplinary team.
- Lead on service development, audit and assist in research initiatives to deliver on best practice evidence based care.
Essential criteria
- Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
- HCPC Registered
- Evidence of post graduate training/qualification relevant to clinical area -paediatrics, respiratory and cystic fibrosis
Desirable criteria
- CSP member
- Member of CSP Specialist section - APCP
- Ability to demonstrate working with regional/national networks
- Significant clinical experience within paediatric respiratory and or cystic fibrosis
- Key skills
- Provide enhanced clinical care in line with professional registration, code of conduct and defined scope of practice, being responsible and accountable for decisions
- Able to work as a team player/ independently
- Standard key board skills & the ability to use IT packages such as Word, Outlook, Power point & Excel
- NHS experience working at senior level
- Significant clinical experience within paediatric respiratory and or cystic fibrosis
- Experience of working as an integral member of a multidisciplinary working and inter agency working
- Demonstrate active involvement in the audit process
- Experience of change management and implementing evidence based practice
- Experience of supervising and mentoring junior members of staff and pre-registration students
- Experience of developing staff and sharing knowledge
- Ability to demonstrate working with regional/national networks
- Demonstrate enhanced level of theoretical profession specific knowledge
- Evidence of current practices and developments within the field paediatrics / respiratory / cystic fibrosis
- Sound knowledge of interventions relevant to clinical area
- Demonstrate a clear understanding of clinical governance including implications on service and audit
