Role summary

This role supports families and babies in achieving their feeding goals, working as part of a multi-professional team. The post holder will also assist the Infant Feeding Team in maintaining Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) accreditation. Responsibilities include participating in audits and other tasks as directed by the Infant Feeding Lead. The position is based at Birmingham Women's Hospital.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide additional feeding support to families and babies to help them achieve their feeding goals.
  • Work alongside other members of the multi professional team.
  • Support the Infant Feeding Team to maintain Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) accreditation.
  • Participate in conducting audit and other tasks as directed by the Infant Feeding Lead.

Essential criteria

  • NVQ Certificate Level 3 in Childcare/Healthcare
  • Accredited breastfeeding support qualification egs. NCT/BfN or 3-day BFI breastfeeding management or BFI compliant training
  • Experience of working with families and babies to support breastfeeding
  • Evidence of working within an NHS maternity care setting
  • Infant feeding clinical knowledge - practice and management
  • Promotion of close and loving relationships
  • Understanding of BFI maternity standards
  • Ability to work within policies and procedures/guidelines and act accordingly
  • Understanding of role boundaries and when to escalate
  • Understanding of the importance of confidentiality
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the practices of equality and inclusion in the delivery of this role
