Role summary
This role involves providing compassionate and supportive patient care within a dynamic theatre environment. You will assist the nursing team with fundamental patient care, including transfers, maintaining dignity, and participating in surgical safety checklists. Responsibilities also include preparing equipment, ensuring cleanliness, and supporting registered staff with peri-operative duties and clinical observations. The position requires working Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm.
Key responsibilities
- Collect patients from wards for theatres.
- Assist with transferring patients from bed and trolleys onto the operating table, maintaining dignity and providing reassurance.
- Participate in the surgical safety checklist and complete circulating duties including pre, peri and post operative swab, needle and instrument counts.
- Ensure all equipment is maintained, clean, stocked up, and ready for use, following lean methodology and stock rotation.
- Prepare equipment for medical and nursing staff for procedures and demonstrate safe working practices.
- Support registered staff by participating in WHO safety checklist, preparing instrumentation and consumable items, and ensuring theatres are stocked.
Essential criteria
- Numeracy/Literacy skills to Level 1 (GCSE Grade 2-3, D-F or equivalent) IELTS or OETS (Overall score of C1) accepted for overseas applicants (Level 7 in Listening/speaking/reading & Level 6.5 in Writing)
- Care Certificate or must complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
- NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Care/Equivalent qualification or willing/required to complete if successful (If applicant has 3 years or more care experience this is voluntary).
- Minimum of 12 months care experience

Job summary
At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.
In relation to Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker roles, we are currently able to recruit successfully from the domestic labour market and have a sufficient pool of suitably qualified and appointable candidates. As a result, visa sponsorship is not available for this role at this time. This position is kept under regular review and may change in the future should labour market conditions or service requirements alter.
