Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Therapeutic Radiographer to join the Northern Centre for Cancer Care in Newcastle. The role involves leading a team of radiographers, managing clinical workloads, and delivering complex radiotherapy procedures. You will contribute to high-quality, patient-centred care using modern techniques and innovative technology. The successful candidate will also participate in staff and student training and contribute to holistic patient care as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Key responsibilities
- Responsible for the management of a team of radiographers and a clinical workload within a specified clinical area.
- Accountable for the direct delivery of radiotherapy within a specified clinical area.
- Implement and deliver complex radiotherapy procedures including localisation, imaging, dose calculation and treatment delivery.
- Undertake radiotherapy practice independently and professionally in accordance with all protocols and procedures.
- Ensure workload targets are achieved with optimal use of resources.
- Participate in and ensure staff & student training/development takes place.
Essential criteria
- oBSc in Radiotherapy or equivalent qualification
- oState registration with Health & Care Professions Council
- oEvidence of continuing professional development through postgraduate training and study appropriate to the post
- oWilling to undertake further education relevant to post
- oSpecialist knowledge in the delivery of radiotherapy across a broad range of techniques and complexity and of developments within this field
- oExtensive knowledge of current treatment and imaging procedures, policies and working practices
- oA working knowledge of standards and legislation in other relevant areas e.g. Health and Safety at work, COSHH, Risk Management and Clinical Governance
- oAble to motivate others and self
- oAble to negotiate
- oGood time management skills
- oExcellent communication skills, listening, written, verbal and non-verbal

Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career as a Therapeutic Radiographer at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC), Newcastle. We are a forward-thinking department with an active program of innovation, including MRI-based planning, Hypersight imaging, and Surface Guided Radiotherapy (SGRT) with plans to introduce online adaptive radiotherapy.
As part of our friendly and supportive team, you will contribute to the delivery of radiotherapy treatments to approximately 8,000 patients each year, across both adult and paediatric services. We utilise a wide range of modern techniques, including VMAT, gating, SABR, SRS, and daily IGRT, on our fleet of Varian linear accelerators. We also provide specialist treatments such as SXT, TBI and TSEI.
The post holder will provide technical expertise and radiographer leadership for the radiotherapy service within their specialist area.
