Role summary
This role is for a confident occupational therapist to work within the adult mental health Occupational Therapy service at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. You will deliver client-centred and specialist assessments and interventions to adults with mental illness, supporting their recovery journey across inpatient and community services. The position involves working as an autonomous practitioner, managing a specialist caseload, supervising junior staff, and contributing to service development tasks like audit and evaluation. The successful candidate will be part of a proactive team committed to lifelong learning and evidence-based practice.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver client-centred and specialist, occupationally focused assessments and interventions to adults with mental illness.
- Effectively use tailored 1:1 and group interventions, and establish and harness community networks to facilitate the recovery journey.
- Supervise and develop junior staff and take Occupational Therapy students on Practice Education placements.
- Work as an autonomous practitioner, carrying a varied specialist caseload including patients with complex needs.
- Contribute to and lead some areas of service development duties, including attending meetings, and leading in audit, evidence-based practice research and service evaluation.
Essential criteria
- Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC Registration
- Attended short courses or equivalent CPD relevant to speciality area at Post graduate level or equivalent.
- Experience of contributing to student placements
- Significant post graduate experience with demonstrable NHS experience in related clinical field which equips the post holder to be competent to carry a specialist caseload in specialist area.
- Experience of contributing to service development and implementing service changes.
- Experienced supervisor. Understanding of supervision and delegation principles.
- Ability to engage clients and their relatives and carers in identifying and agreeing treatment goals.
- Commitment to lifelong learning to develop own professional skills
- Commitment to contribute to service development task e.g. audit and evidence based practice and service evaluation to improve patient care.
- Ability to articulate role within a whole systems approach.
- Demonstrates compassionate care.
- Demonstrate sound team working values.
- Demonstrate value of supporting the development of others.
- Able to meet the travel requirements of the post.
- Flexible approach to work
- Evidence of working independently/ level of supervision relevant to experience.

Job summary
We are looking for a confident occupational therapist to work as part of the adult mental health Occupational Therapy service within BCUHB, delivering client centred and specialist, occupationally focused assessments and interventions to adults with mental illness.
The adult mental health Occupational Therapy service endeavours to support the patient recovery journey across the service pathway from crisis, through to admission and community services, supporting self-management and functional independence. The successful candidate will become part of a proactive, BCUHB wide, mental health Occupational Therapy team who work together to develop clinical skills and effectiveness across the adult mental health pathway. We seek to expand the mental health Occupational Therapy provision across all three Areas of BCUHB by evaluating service provision, developing business cases and running pilot projects. The Occupational Therapy service is committed to lifelong learning and evidenced based practice. All staff receive support and encouragement to utilise continuing professional development (CPD) to maintain a CPD portfolio.
