Role summary
This is a hands-on support role within the Occupational Therapy Service at Berwick Infirmary. The post holder will work closely with qualified OTs, assisting patients with functional problems, providing equipment, and supporting rehabilitation to enhance independence. The role requires good communication, practical skills, and teamwork, with an expectation of weekend working and potential support at other sites.
Key responsibilities
- Working under the direction of Occupational Therapists to implement planned interventions within hospitals or community settings.
- Supporting with basic environmental checks and prescription of equipment, within competence, under direct OT instruction.
- Assisting with specific therapeutic interventions / techniques under the direct instruction of an Occupational Therapist.
- Assisting therapists to carry out administrative duties associated with the delivery of services.
Essential criteria
- NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or above/equivalent or demonstrable experience within health, social care and education settings
- It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. However, the Trust would consider making reasonable adjustments to the role, if necessary, to enable a disabled person to undertake the role.
- Knowledge of OT techniques and /or activities relevant to client group; acquired through training, experience in an OT setting to NVQ.

Job summary
We are seeking to recruit a competent and enthusiastic Technical Instructor to join our friendly, well-established Occupational Therapy Service based at Berwick Infirmary. This is a**** hands-on support role within occupational therapy. You would work closely with qualified OTs, see patients in different settings, help assess and solve everyday functional problems, provide and fit equipment, support rehabilitation activities, and help patients become safer and more independent.
The role requires good communication, practical skills, teamwork, safe working practices and the ability to work independently while knowing when to seek advice. This role also involves weekend working and supporting other sites in community hospitals acute settings as required.
Service hours are currently 08:30-16:30 Monday - Friday within Berwick Infirmary. There is an expectation of weekend working across other Northumbria Healthcare sites. Contractual hours are between 08:00-20:00 and this may be implemented in the future.
