Role summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join the friendly Paediatric nursing teams at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The role involves providing care to children and young people from birth to 16 years within a 17-bed inpatient ward, 4 day case beds, and a 6-bedded Paediatric Observation Assessment Unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for patient care planning, contributing to research, maintaining care standards, and promoting safeguarding.
Essential criteria
- 1st Level Registered Nurse (degree/diploma)
- Current NMC Registration
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Knowledge & Experience
- Able to demonstrate knowledge of NMC professional standards for practice contained within the code
- Experience of working in a clinical environment
- Understand requirements for NMC professional Revalidation
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
- An understanding of national, regional and local NHS issues
- Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to network and build relationships at all levels
- Effectively priorities and co-ordinates own workload
- Ability to de-escalate complex situations
- Ability to communicate effectively (written, verbal and non-verbal communication) with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- Awareness of the need for confidentiality always
- Computer literacy e.g. experience of electronic patient record
- Other
- Frequent moderate effort for several short periods of time such as manual handling of patients and equipment.
- Frequent concentration required for drug calculation and administration
- Dealing with frequent interruptions and competing demands
- Ability to work within highly distressing or emotional circumstances e.g. end of life care
- Ability to communicate distressing information
- Ability to communicate in a challenging environment
- Able to carry out direct clinical care as required on ward or department.

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our friendly, Paediatric nursing teams.
36 hours permanent position available.
The Paediatric Department consists of a team of experienced and dedicated Nursing and Medical staff providing care to children and young people from birth to 16 years.
The Children's Ward includes 17 in-patient and 4 day case beds . There is also a 6 bedded Paediatric Observation Assessment Unit co-located next to the ward.
_An Enhanced DBS Certificate, with the checking of the Children's Barred Lists is required for this position._
Main duties of the job
- To be responsible in association with the team leader for the formulation and implementation of individual patient care plans.
- To participate in the holistic assessment of patients, and to formulate and review individual patient care plans and to act as 'named nurse' or associate for a group of patients from admission to discharge as determined by the Ward Manager.
- To commenceand participate in research/special projects as directed by the ward manager.
- To contribute to the setting, maintaining and monitoring of standards of care within the ward.
- Help to ensure that all equipment is in safe working order in conjunction with the department equipment controller.
- Internal rotations onto night duty and twilight shifts are required.
