Role summary

This role is for an enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to work within the Leeds Gender Identity Service, focusing on voice and communication for trans and gender diverse service users. You will independently manage a caseload, providing specialist assessment and intervention in areas like pitch, resonance, and intonation. The position involves both individual and group therapy sessions, contributing to care pathway development, and working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

  • Independently manage a caseload of service users experiencing gender dysphoria, providing complex information related to Speech and Language Therapy interventions.
  • Accept internal referrals for Transgender Voice and Communication Therapy and manage a caseload through assessment, individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Provide specialist assessment (perceptual and objective) and intervention in pitch, resonance, intonation, and voice quality.
  • Input into planning and delivering voice group therapy programmes in liaison with the gender team.
  • Take a lead role in creating, developing and updating care pathways for specific clinical issues within SLT.

Essential criteria

  • Recognised Speech and Language Thera qualification and HCPC registration.
  • Post graduate experience in Voice.
  • Excellent written communication.
  • Awareness and understanding of working with trans and non-binary service users.

Job summary

Leeds Gender Identity Service is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Speech and Language therapist to work in the field of voice and communication.

This post is an exciting opportunity to assess and provide intervention to trans and gender diverse service users who wish to find their authentic voice which is congruent with their gender.

You will have experience of working in the field of voice. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and as the caseload may also include people with autism and learning difficulties, you will need to be flexible in your therapeutic approach to work alongside different needs.

You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team which includes doctors, psychologists, endocrinology team and nursing colleagues. You will have access to management supervision and 1:1 clinical and peer supervision as required in addition to support from Band 7 Speech and Language Therapists within the team.

Although the base for the post is Leeds, the service does currently offer the majority of therapy sessions on-line. We welcome any queries that you may have about applying for this role.
