Role summary

This is a Band 6 Diabetes Specialist Nurse role for Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust's Inpatient Diabetes Services. The successful candidate will support the 7-day inpatient diabetes service, providing clinical care, education, and support to patients with diabetes across hospital sites. The role involves working autonomously within a multidisciplinary team and offers opportunities for professional development in diabetes care. It is a 12-month secondment or fixed-term contract, working 15 hours per week.

Essential criteria

  • Current NMC registration
  • ENB 998 teaching and assessing course or equivalent mentorship preparation course e.g., C & G 730
  • To have a recognised diabetes course
  • Diabetes in healthcare online training

Desirable criteria

  • Possess a relevant Nursing Degree or be willing to work towards one
  • Previous post registration NHS experience in a diabetes environment
  • Teaching and supervising of junior staff and students
  • Working with IT systems e.g., patient centre, RIO
  • Experience of audit/research and publication
  • Skills & Knowledge
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage difficult/stressful situations effectively
  • The ability to work independently to an approved protocol whilst acknowledging limitations and liaising with the Senior DSN or Diabetologist where appropriate.
  • Supervising and teaching fellow colleagues and students
  • Effective resource management

As part of the exciting and innovative developments across Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, we are delighted to offer a Band 6 vacancy for an enthusiastic and committed Diabetes Nurse Specialist to join our expanding team.

In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting the delivery of our 7-day inpatient diabetes service, contributing to the day-to-day clinical care, education, and support of patients with diabetes across our hospital sites. You will work alongside a friendly, multidisciplinary team including consultants, dietitians, and other specialist nurses.

About You :We are looking for a qualified, NMC-registered nurse with a strong interest or experience in diabetes care. You should be confident in working autonomously within a team, have excellent communication skills, and a desire to develop your clinical expertise in a specialist setting.
