Role summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated senior band 5 or 6 nurse to join the eye emergency team. The role involves providing leadership, operational coordination, and clinical support to nursing, administrative, and multidisciplinary teams within the Eye Emergency department. The postholder will work alongside other sisters to ensure day-to-day operational effectiveness and help the service meet the 4-hour waiting time target for treatment. The service operates 7 days a week, 8am to 7pm, with usual shift patterns from 7:30am to 8pm, including weekends and bank holidays.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, operational coordination and clinical support to nursing, administrative and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Liaise with other departments within ophthalmology and the wider UHS organisation.
  • Support the team and service to deliver the 4-hour waiting time for treatment target.
  • Be responsible for the day to day operational effectiveness in eye emergency.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and delegate effectively.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our eye emergency team.

You may not be an expert in ophthalmology but we are looking for a dynamic and motivated senior band 5 or 6 nurse who would like the opportunity for a leadership role within the Eye Emergency department.

This postholder will work alongside another junior sister and the senior sister of the department providing leadership, operational coordination and clinical support to our nursing, administrative and multidisciplinary team.

You will be liaising with other departments within ophthalmology as well as the wider UHS organisation and surrounding partners.

As a type 2 emergency department we have to adhere to the 4hour waiting time for treatment target and the band 6 sister supports the team and service to deliver this.
