Role summary
This role involves assisting Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychologists in providing psychological input within the Forensic Service, which includes inpatient, HMPPS, and community settings. You will conduct structured risk and neuropsychological assessments, contribute to psychological formulations, interventions, and evaluations, and assist in the delivery of care plans. The position also involves coordinating therapeutic groups and participating in multi-disciplinary meetings. This is a patient-facing role based at Littlemore Mental Health Centre.
Key responsibilities
- Assist Clinical/Counselling/Forensic Psychologists in psychological input, including developing psychological formulations, interventions, and evaluations.
- Carry out structured risk assessments and neuropsychological assessments, as well as involvement in projects and research.
- Undertake protocol-based psychological assessments of clients, including neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews.
- Assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a client's problems, including risk of violence and protective factors.
- Assist in the coordination and running of therapeutic groups.
- Attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings.
Essential criteria
- An upper second class honours degree, or higher in Psychology
- Entitlement to graduate membership of the BPS
- An understanding and ability to apply psychological knowledge to a mental health and forensic context
- Knowledge of software for databases and data analysis
- High level of written and verbal communication skills
- An ability to apply empirical research skills
- Previous experience working as an assistant psychologist with people with mental health problems
Desirable criteria
- Further post-graduate training in relevant areas of psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis
- High standard of report writing skills
- Experience of delivering psychological interventions in forensic settings
