Role summary
Compton Ward, an 18-bedded surgical ward for general surgery, urology, and non-complex T&O patients, is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Registered Nurse. The role involves active participation in the nursing team, delivering high standards of patient care, and demonstrating knowledge of surgical conditions. The successful candidate will support the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of patient care within Trust and directorate pathways. This is a fixed-term position for 6 months.
Key responsibilities
- Participate as an active member of the nursing team, accountable for your practice and role modelling the highest standards of care.
- Demonstrate a good knowledge base of surgical conditions and the treatment required, using evidence on which to base practice.
- Support the team in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care of patients attending the department.
- Lead by example with drive and enthusiasm, responding appropriately to the needs of patients, families, and carers.
- Coordinate patient discharge arrangements in accordance with NGH discharge policy and processes.
- Maintain complete and accurate patient records via Nerve Centre.
Essential criteria
- NMC Registration
- Experience of surgical nursing
- Demonstrate ability to assess, plan, prioritise and evaluate patient care
- Up to date on mandatory training and role specific training
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work within a team and autonomously
- Ability to plan own work load with organisation skills and manage time effectively
- Effective IT skills, competent with IT systems
