Role summary

This role involves assessing and guiding interventions for suspected Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) within the Mid & South Essex Adult ADHD Service. The post holder will provide skills training, supervision, and consultation, working alongside a multidisciplinary team including Assistant Psychologists, specialist nurses, and psychiatrists. A key aspect is spanning clinical delivery of psychological assessment and intervention for individuals with suspected ADHD not yet known to secondary mental health services. This position offers significant opportunities for clinical leadership and service development in neurodevelopmental services.

Essential criteria

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS. To include models of psychopathology, neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • HCPC registered, and eligible for registration with a professional clinical body (BPS).
  • For 8a - formal training in clinical supervision.
  • Skills in conducting complex, specialist assessments, and integrated interventions requiring frequent sustained and intense concentration.
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and nonprofessional groups

Desirable criteria

  • Pre-training experience of working with individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • Evidence of CPD in relation to a clinical speciality.

  • Significant proven experience of working within NHS mental health services and multidisciplinary teams with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity.
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' formulation, assessment, psychological care and treatment within the context of a multidisciplinary care team.
  • Experience of conducting assessments for neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • Experience of providing consultation to community teams and residential settings including non-NHS staff.
  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience of teaching and training.

Job summary

The post holder will work with the Mid & South Essex Adult ADHD Service to assess and guide intervention for suspected Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This role includes skills training, supervision and consultation and the post holder will work alongside Assistant Psychologists, Trainee Clinical Associate Psychologists, specialist nurses, pharmacists and psychiatrists. The MDT also work with relevant community teams within health, and Social Care as well as voluntary sectors. The team integrates and works in partnership with local Primary Care Networks (PCNs) and NHS Talking Therapies to develop further support for individuals. There is a role for ongoing training and consultation to the PCNs, mental health and GP colleagues in secondary and primary care services as well as in the wider community.

This post is crucial in spanning the clinical delivery of psychological assessment and intervention for people with suspected ADHD who are not already known to secondary mental health services.
