Role summary
This role is for a Band 5 Rehabilitation Technician to join the Paediatric Orthotic Service at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. The technician will provide skilled expertise in manufacturing and repairing a range of specialist paediatric orthotic devices, working closely with orthotists. They will also manage orthotic componentry, maintain stock, and assess/maintain short-term loan wheelchairs. Key responsibilities
- Provide skilled technical expertise in the manufacture of a comprehensive range of highly specialist Paediatric Orthotic Devices.
- Work closely with Paediatric Orthotists to support patients with varied and highly complex needs.
- Manufacture, fabricate, maintain and repair orthoses to agreed quality standards and service timescales.
- Assess, maintain, adapt and supply short-term loan wheelchairs within Glasgow's Children’s Hospital.
- Manage orthotic componentry and maintain stock control systems.
- Order materials and components as required.
- Contribute effectively to team working, service development and innovation.
- Support the delivery of a high-quality paediatric orthotic and wheelchair service.
Essential criteria
- Appropriate HNC qualification or equivalent qualification/experience.
- Technical knowledge and practical skills relevant to orthotics, rehabilitation engineering, or a related environment.
- Ability to provide specialist technical support and expertise.
- Strong organisational and teamwork skills.
- Demonstrable practical and technical aptitude (For Trainee Applicants).
- Ability and willingness to learn specialist orthotic manufacturing skills (For Trainee Applicants).
- Interest in orthotics or experience in a similar technical field (For Trainee Applicants).
- PVG certification for working with children and vulnerable groups is required.
