Role summary
The Assistant Fire Safety Advisor will join a small professional team within NWSSP - Specialist Estates Services in Cardiff. The role involves supporting the Principal Fire Safety Advisor in providing advice and guidance on fire safety matters to Welsh Government, NHS Wales Health Boards/Trusts, and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will help implement directives, advise on compliance, monitor performance, and engage with health boards on development schemes related to fire safety.
Essential criteria
- Experience in a wide range of fire safety roles within the public or private sector, including for example: fire prevention, fire safety legislation, risk assessments and fire safety audits, interpretation of building drawings and schematic plans, fire safety management and building surveys.
- A thorough understanding of fire prevention, building construction and services, fire safety legislation, Codes of Practice, Building Regulations.
Desirable criteria
- CFPA European diploma in fire safety management or equivalent.
- Experience of working for the NHS on fire safety issues, including fire safety management, fire strategies.
- Postgraduate qualification / degree and equivalent specialist professional industry standard level in relevant multi-disciplinary aspects such as fire engineering, fire safety in a building development context, and/or fire safety standards' management, and/or fire management or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Understanding of the complex nature of the NHS environment.

Job summary
NWSSP - Specialist Estates Services, based in Cardiff, is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Fire Safety Advisor to join our fire team, focused on supporting fire safety across the NHS estate in Wales.
As part of a small professional team, you will be responsible for supporting the Principal Fire Safety Advisor in the provision of advice and guidance to Welsh Government, Health Boards/Trusts of NHS Wales and other key stakeholders on fire safety related matters.
As a confident individual, to meet this opportunity, you will be degree qualified in a relevant subject such as fire engineering, fire management or building related context, and/or have equivalent demonstrable experience. Your high level of IT literacy must be complemented by good communication, team-working and presentation skills.
The post will be based in Cardiff or alternative regional NWSSP office (to be agreed), noting travel across the Principality will be required.
