Role summary
This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity for an enthusiastic Band 6 Dietitian to join the growing Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery Service at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The role involves delivering and developing a new dietetic service for patients undergoing complex cancer surgery and treatment, working in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The successful candidate will optimize nutritional status, enhance post-operative recovery, and manage nutritional consequences of cancer. This is an excellent opportunity to gain specialist experience in HPB surgery, cancer care, and service development.
Essential criteria
- Evidence of relevant GCSE, NVQ, GNVQ, AS and A levels
- Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent
- Registration with HCPC
Desirable criteria
- MSc or equivalent experience e.g. advanced level of clinical practice / relevant postgraduate, professionally accredited courses
- Relevant post registration experience relevant to clinical area.
- In depth for nutritional assessment / nutritional screening tools.
- Knowledge of all types of nutritional support.
- Up to date with clinical developments, with evidence of contributions to clinical meetings / journal clubs.
- Working knowledge of computer programmes e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, powerpoint, dietary analysis, data collection and patient information programmes.
- Evidence of clinical audit and/or research.
- Evidence of multi-disciplinary team work.
- Knowledge of standards of record keeping and medico-legal issues.
- Experience of training Dietetic students.
- Experience in HPB, Surgery, and/or Oncology.
- Knowledge of HPB Cancer pathways.
- Knowledge or experience in prehabilitation.
- Evidence of teaching groups of professionals and patients
- Evidence of ongoing regular attendance on post-graduate training courses and clinical development.
- Evidence of attendance at national conferences.
- Attendance at specialist group meetings of BDA and accredited specialist training course.
- Attendance at relevant multi-disciplinary courses/conferences

We are offering an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic dietitian to join our growing Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) Surgery Service on a 12-month fixed-term basis. This post is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
You will be working alongside our specialist Band 7 HPB Dietitian, playing a pivotal role in delivering and developing a new dietetic service for patients undergoing complex cancer surgery and treatment. You will be working in both the inpatient and outpatient setting, supporting patients to optimise their nutritional status before surgery, enhance their post-operative recovery and manage the nutritional consequences of cancer and treatment throughout their treatment journey.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and proactive dietitian to gain specialist experience in HPB surgery, cancer care and service development. You will be joining the service at an exciting stage of growth and will be required to make a real contribution to its development and sustainability, improving outcomes for patients undergoing complex cancer treatment and demonstrating this though service evaluation and audit.
Experience in Surgery, Oncology or prehabilitation would be advantageous.
