Role summary

Job summary

To work as part of the Oncology Team taking a lead role in providing secretarial support for the consultants, junior medical staff in the team with particular responsibility for audio typing (clinics tapes, discharge summaries) as Directorate Support Officer.

The post holder will be required to demonstrate a significant level of initiative in organising their workload and in making decisions and taking action in accordance with departmental policy.

Main duties of the job

To type all correspondence relating to out patients and in patients, including typing of departmental correspondence, with a low rate of errors and to meet Trust turnaround targets.

Regularly liaising with Directorate Support Officer to ensure departmental priorities are met.

Managing consultant's diaries, booking meetings and taking minutes where appropriate.

Arrange patients new and follow up appointments as required using PAS system and liaison with appropriate departments

Receive enquires from patients and staff, resolving enquiries of a more complex nature and dealing with as appropriate.

Liaise professionally with all departments regarding admissions, waiting lists, ad hoc ward attenders and cancellations ensuring hospital policies are adhered to.
